I wanted to link my friend to this, but I realized that the original post is in a locked community, so! Something I wrote once upon a time, for the holiday exchange at lupin_snape a few years ago.

Title Fine Structure

Pairings Snape/Lupin (explicit past Severus/Regulus, implicit past Remus/Sirius)
Rating NC-17
Word Count: 4,000ish
Warnings I wasn't joking when I said explicit. Also, some not so pleasant imagery.
Author's Note I'm afraid that I got overly nerdy with the title, which is a reference to a phenomenon observed in atomic spectroscopy, where each spectral line has a much more detailed structure if you look at it at the quantum level.

Spring Awakening icons 001

I've been meaning to do this for a while, I've...just been too lazy? Something :x Anyway, these are most of the Spring Awakening icons I've made so far. Feel free to use what you want, I just ask that:

- You comment, saying which ones you'll be taking
- You put some form of "made by springandsummer" in the keywords/comment section of the icon
- You don't alter the icon except to slap some text on, if you want (and if you do that, please comment and let me see what you did!)

Thirty nine icons this-a-wayCollapse )

I have some more icons on my computer that I can probably clean up a bit and then post them too. Plus, I need some inspiration, so I'm willing to take requests! I have... ample resources, so I'll try my best :) If I do get any, I'm going to try and posts any requested icons next Friday (a week from tomorrow). Also, let me know if you think this post is missing a useful tag, as I'm trying to sort that out too! Thanks again! ♥

As Spring Awakening is the third Broadway show that I've fallen in love with hardcore, I'm not a stranger to making icons out of less-than-ideal starting material. I wouldn't say it's hard, necessarily, but it can be pretty fiddly and there is a certain knack to it. While I'm not an expert icon maker by any stretch of the imagination, I'd like to think that I'm firmly competent, and a few of my friends wanted some pointers. So!

Here's a tutorial to basic Broadway icon-making, which includes
- How to use GIMP
- Layering
- Color balancing
- Selective coloring
- The importance of saturation

I tried to write this so that someone who has absolutely no experience making icons should be able to follow it, so I apologize if I get overly wordy or explain things that you already know how to do :/

For the demonstration I'll be using a picture from Spring Awakening and covering a lot of the problems I've run across there, but hopefully it'll be applicable to other fandoms as well :) Also, while I use GIMP, I would imagine that many of the same principles would be applicable in Photoshop, they just might be hiding under different menus or icons.

How to go from here to there [in what is hopefully a logical and helpful manner]Collapse )
